Museum Visitor Rules

To ensure the safety of all visitors and artworks, museum staff are available during your visit to answer any questions you may have.

Security Measures (Vigipirate)

To ensure the safety of all visitors, the museum applies the preventative measures decided by the French government. All visitors must undergo security checks at the museum entrances.

Suitcases and large bags are not allowed in the museum.

Maximum size of bag allowed: Items exceeding 55 x 35 x 20 cm will not be permitted. Lockers are available free of charge for smaller items. Umbrellas that do not fit in a bag must be left in self-service stands.

All items left in lockers must be collected the same day. The museum shall not be held responsible for any valuable items. Contact staff for further information.

Photography

Photos and videos are allowed in permanent collections for personal use. Flash, lighting, and selfie sticks are prohibited.

Temporary exhibitions may restrict photography of certain works.

Loan of Equipment

Any equipment on loan must remain on museum premises.

Exiting the Museum

To manage visitor flow, all exits are final.

Respect the Artworks

In exhibition rooms, the following are strictly prohibited:

  • Drinking
  • Eating
  • Smoking
  • Excessive noise
  • Touching artworks
  • Running

Prohibited Items

  • Weapons and ammunition
  • Tools (knives, screwdrivers, hammers, etc.)
  • Blunt objects (bats, self-defense items)
  • Explosive, flammable, or volatile substances
  • Aerosols containing substances likely to damage artworks
  • Electrical incapacitating weapons
  • Artwork or antiques not part of museum collection
  • Excessive food or drink
  • Animals, except guide or assistance dogs

Right to Speak Publicly

Only authorized individuals such as curators, teachers, or professional tour guides with proper permits are allowed to speak publicly in exhibition rooms.

Respect the Gardens

  • No mono- or bicycles
  • Do not walk or sit on lawns
  • Do not pick plants
  • Do not touch or climb sculptures
  • Pets only on cafe terraces
  • Do not feed birds
  • Do not remove chairs
  • No smoking (Decree no. 2025-582)
